Leisure libraries provide recreational facilities for adults with learning difficulties and their families. They are often run by groups of parents and by the users themselves, with the support of Social Services. Also managed locally and independently funded, they operate a loan system for specialist leisure equipment, as well as providing information, advice and organised social activities. Leisure libraries offer:
- leisure facilities and loan of equipment to adults with special needs
- opportunities to develop practical skills and abilities
- involvement of members in decision-making and administration
- information, advice, and contact with other services
- a meeting place for friends, parents and carers
To find out whether there is a leisure library in your area, telephone 020 7428 2288 or contact membership services stating your full postal address, the age of the person who wishes to attend and any special requirements.
